A Citizens’ Assembly is made up of members of the general public who come together to look at issues of national importance. The members of a Citizens’ Assembly are randomly selected, with the intention that the group should be broadly representative of wider Irish society.
The Citizens’ Assembly allows a cross-section of the public to consider expert evidence, hear from people working in the area, examine submissions from interested parties and engage in debate and deliberation.
The Citizens’ Assembly operates under a set of rules that ensure balance, fairness, respect and inclusion of diverse perspectives.
Arising from its work, the Citizens’ Assembly will vote on recommendations that will then be submitted to the Oireachtas and Government.
